VIMA (Voice International Music Awards) is the premier platform dedicated to recognizing, honoring, and elevating independent music talent across Asia and beyond.
Since our inception, we have stood for one thing above all else: giving a stage to the unheard, the underground, and the unsigned.
We are not just an awards show; we are a movement that champions the “Davids” in a world of “Goliaths.”
Our History
Breaking Boundaries Since 2008
VIMA was founded in 2008 in Malaysia by Siva ” Zaphod” Chandran and a team of passionate visionaries who saw a gap in the music industry. While mainstream acts dominated the airwaves, a vibrant undercurrent of talented independent musicians—from bedroom DJs to garage rock bands—went unnoticed.
Originally launched as the Voice Independent Music Awards, we made history as one of the first awards of its kind in Asia to open its doors to unsigned and independent artists without prejudice. We broke the mold by accepting demo versions, welcoming all genres (from pop and rock to genre-bending experimental sounds), and judging talent based on creativity and potential rather than production budget.
Over the years, VIMA evolved from a local Malaysian event into a regional powerhouse, rebranding as the Voice International Music Awards to reflect our growing footprint.
We have proudly hosted entries and winners from Singapore, Brunei, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Thailand, Europe and more, creating a cross-border community where music transcends language and geography.
